In a post for The Prospect, a student authored college admissions site featured on The Huffington Post, the Hastings+Chivetta designed Student Recreation Center at the University of Missouri-Columbia and the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center are being recognized as awesome perks for students attending those schools.

Mizzou’s Student Recreation Complex measures in at more that 220,000 square feet – making it the largest recreation center in the history of Missouri higher education and one of the top five largest recreation facilities in the nation. Students have access to a huge fitness center with cardio equipment, free weights, selectorized weight training machines, and a 40-foot glass-enclosed climbing tower.  The heated outdoor pool greets students and members near the new facility’s southeast entrance. The new, state-of-the-art indoor aquatics center features a competitive 50-meter pool, ten-meter diving platform, and spring board diving along with seating for 1,000 spectators. The aquatic center also features a custom-designed leisure pool. The interiors reflects MU’s mascot, the tiger, and carries a jungle theme throughout the complex. School pride is felt in every space.

Georgia Tech’s Aquatic Center is a feature of the Campus Recreation Center. As the host aquatic venue for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games, the competitive 50-meter pool at Georgia Tech was designed for a once-in-a-lifetime event. It was the legacy of the games that the school wanted to preserve in converting the facility into a campus recreation center. Hastings+Chivetta developed  a bold, innovative solution, involving the world’s longest prestressed concrete floor span, which stretches over the 50-meter pool and under the existing roof. The project includes a 50-meter competition pool, a six-court gymnasium space, a fitness center, racquetball courts, a climbing wall, a leisure pool, offices, locker rooms, and a 500-vehicle, three-level parking deck.
