Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is composed of two campuses: the Medical College of Virginia Campus (MCV), located near downtown Richmond, and Monroe Park Campus, less than two miles west in the historic Fan District. VCU retained the services of Hastings+Chivetta for expansions and renovations of the recreation centers on each campus.

• Fitness Center and Climbing Wall
• Racquetball Courts and Squash Court
• Small Exercise/Spinning Room
• Two Large Exercise/Meeting Rooms
• Wellness Center
• Office Space and Conference Room
• Lounge with Vending Machines
• Locker Rooms with Family Rooms

Hastings+Chivetta first conducted on-campus workshops with various key groups to determine facility needs, along with surveys to determine usage. Design concepts immediately followed data analysis, both from by Hastings+Chivetta, in association with Moseley Architects. It was determined that the following components should be included in the new centers.
