To help maintain its reputation as one of the nation’s premier institutions, Carleton College made a commitment to improve the quality of student life. As part of Carleton’s master plan process, one of the needs identified was the construction of a new student recreation center. The Recreation Center was designed to blend into its landscape, which is part of Carleton’s arboretum. Buff brick, golden-colored brushed brick, and shades of bronze framing were used to reduce reflection from the sun. Some of the facility’s major components include a six-lane, 200-meter indoor track, cardiovascular and fitness areas, climbing wall, aerobics/dance space, putting green, tennis courts, and racquetball courts. The building has proven to be a great asset to the College by helping recruit and retain students from across the country.
