Okemos Public Schools

Additions / Renovations

Okemos Public Schools selected Hastings+Chivetta to help determine and then implement the most effective solution to meet the district’s changing educational needs. This plan included a new high school and elementary school, middle school renovations and a new bus facility.

The new elementary school’s overall plan includes individualized “pods” for each grade level; each pod contains restrooms, a storage room, locker storage, a skylit group alcove, a teacher workroom and a playground entrance.

The new high school features two academic wings, a performing arts center and a physical education center, all surrounding a socialization core, which contains the media center and the student commons. Creation of a new high school allowed the district to place its middle school students into two renovated facilities, thus relieving overcrowding. The new bus facility includes bus maintenance operations, administrative offices, conference space, and a driver ready room.

Outdoor athletic venues include tennis courts, a track, a football/soccer field and fields for baseball and softball.  Parking lots are available for over 900 vehicles.
