Hanover College, founded in 1827, is distinguished as the oldest private college in the state of Indiana. Hastings+Chivetta was chosen to develop a program and design to modernize the Agnes Brown Duggan Library. A phasing plan was created so renovations would match funding.
The project included the complete renovation of the third floor to include additional stack space, reading areas, study rooms, study carrels, and map archives. Partial renovation of the first and second floors included a circulation desk, administrative offices, archive storage, special collections, and individual storage rooms.
One of the challenges of the library project was developing an improvement plan that could be phased to match the project funding available to the college. Hastings+Chivetta rose to the challenge by making major improvements to the third floor, allowing for future reorganization and improvements to the first and second floors.
