Founded in 1960 as an independent day school in Tampa, Berkeley Preparatory School has a growing enrollment in grades PreK-12.
Berkeley Prep leaders were impressed with the campus master plan and design services Hastings+Chivetta completed for the Community School in Naples, Florida. Similar to the Community School, Berkeley Prep had acquired twelve acres of adjacent land, bringing its site to 76 acres. Berkeley Prep leaders commissioned Hastings+Chivetta to provide services for a master plan study.
Hastings+Chivetta examined and evaluated existing facilities, then created a plan for future physical development that would occur during various phases, determined in collaboration with Berkeley Preparatory School. Design workshops with key constituents allowed those affected by the plan to be involved with the decisions. The workshops helped in establishing and prioritizing goals, summarizing space needs, confirming programming, and developing a budget.
The final report described the need for new academic, fitness, and athletic facilities and offered a strategy for implementing these recommended solutions. Alternative schemes and recommendations were reviewed by Berkeley Prep representatives and conceptual designs and floor plans completed by Hastings+Chivetta were narrowed to one or two alternatives for further development.
Phase one, the largest phase that includes all athletic fields, a secondary entry, and the Field House is currently moving forward.
