Allegheny College

David V. Wise Sport & Fitness Center

Allegheny College’s original sport and recreation facilities were considered “too small, obsolete, and functionally inadequate for current programs.” To better accommodate students, Hastings+Chivetta designed the new Sport & Fitness Center.

A new entry and lobby links the Wise Center with the Mellon Center, which houses the campus natatorium complex. The Mellon Center was renovated to include new racquetball/squash courts and a large exercise room.

Components in the Wise Center include a four-court, multipurpose forum with a suspended track offering views of the Allegheny Mountains; a 1200-seat two-story-high performance arena; and a second performance court with two cross-practice courts, allowing simultaneous event scheduling. Other spaces include a weight room, a cardio area, an exercise room and an athletic training room.

The location of the new Sport & Fitness Center directly across from the Campus Center reinforces Allegheny’s mission of providing all student and faculty amenities in a central location.
