Gene W. Ray Basketball Practice Center

Athletic teams at Murray State University, particularly renowned for its basketball program, compete at the NCAA Division I level. In response to the need for an adequate practice venue for the men’s and women’s basketball teams, Hastings+Chivetta was retained by the university to design an 18,000 sf addition to the Murray Racers’ basketball performance arena.

The Gene W. Ray Center is devoted entirely to practice – the first such facility for a team in the Ohio Valley Conference.

The basketball arena frequently hosts a variety of community and campus events, such as commencements, trade shows and concerts, which interrupt the men’s and women’s basketball teams’ access to the court. With the new Ray Center, the teams will never be short of practice space.

The 7,679 SF Morgan Court is NCAA regulation-sized and is located adjacent to the basketball arena, providing convenient access to team locker rooms and the athletic training room. A natural light-filled lobby with comfortable seating offers access to two suites of offices and conference rooms – one for the women’s coaches and one for the men’s.
