Hastings+Chivetta was selected as the sports consultant by the College of Wooster for this major addition to the existing athletic center. MacLachlan, Cornelius & Filoni Architects was the Architect of Record for the project. The 123,000 SF addition provides greater flexibility for athletic programs, including the ability to host indoor events, and allows growth opportunities for student recreation activities.
Hastings+Chivetta conducted an analysis of the athletic and recreation facilities at the College of Wooster’s peer institutions, and worked with college representatives to develop a facility plan that would maintain flexibility for future program growth.
The new Scot Center adjoins the existing athletic center and creates improved flow between activities. Inside the new center is a six-lane, 200-meter track, an eight-lane sprint track, accommodation for field events including shotput and pole vaulting, four basketball courts also striped for volleyball, and batting cages.
A fitness, cardio and weight training center is located in the new connector between the Scot Center and existing athletic center, offering access for both athletes and recreational users. Also included are athletic departmental offices and meeting rooms, lounge and concourse spaces.
The Scot Center also includes a 20,000 SF rooftop solar array, the largest on any collegiate facility in the country. The building is LEED Gold certified.
