Garrett College, a thriving member of the Maryland Community College District in the far northwest corner of the state, wanted a center that would support the needs of their student-athletes and student recreation participants as well as the health and wellness needs of McHenry citizens.
College administrators, in conjunction with county commissioners, hired Hastings+Chivetta to provide professional services of a feasibility study, programming and design for the new combination Athletic and Community Recreation Center (ACRC).
The ACRC will be the college’s primary athletic facility and will include a competition arena, an athletic training room, separate locker rooms for varsity sports, team meeting rooms, classrooms, and offices for athletic administrations and coaches.
When completed, the facility will be open to the public and offer amenities of an elevated indoor track, basketball courts, fitness and weights areas, along with an indoor pool. Classrooms, physical therapy rooms and party rooms will be available to members of the college, Garrett County Memorial Hospital and community groups.
