Columbus State University

Student Recreation Center

In 2000, the 4,200-seat Frank G. Lumpkin Center opened on the campus of Columbus State University, designed by Hastings+Chivetta. CSU leaders returned to Hastings+Chivetta, in association with LDDI, to design and construct a new Student Recreation Center.

Social spaces in the SRC include a student lounge, a juice bar, meeting rooms, offices and a multipurpose banquet hall with catering kitchen.

The aquatic center has a sauna, a whirlpool and a wet classroom. Recreation components include a fitness center with a separate quiet space, climbing and bouldering walls, a multipurpose gym with elevated track, racquetball courts, movement rooms and locker rooms.

The new three-level facility is aesthetically compatible with Lumpkin Center and the surrounding campus in its use of brick masonry, glass, metal panel and rough-cut stone.
