East Carolina University

Student Recreation Center

East Carolina University’s goal was clear – to build a recreation center “second to none.” The facility’s program called for three separate and distinct activity types: active, passive, and aquatic recreation.

The active recreation spaces include racquetball courts, a six-court gymnasium, a jogging track, aerobic studios, a fitness laboratory, and a weight room. Passive recreation spaces include the juice bar, television lounge, pro-shop, and classrooms. Aquatic recreation spaces include the competition pool, leisure pool, outdoor pool, and deck.

The new facility reflects the colonial architecture of the main campus while its entry rotunda serves as a favorite gathering spot for special events.
