University of Toledo

Student Recreation Center

Hastings+Chivetta designed the University of Toledo’s Student Recreation Center, a comprehensive recreational facility.

An attractive lobby serves as a gathering space and focal point for campus activities. Visitors can access the observation seating area for varsity aquatic events from one side of the lobby, or they can enter the student recreation center from the opposite side. Inside the controlled activity zone of the facility, a games area overlooks the five-court multipurpose forum.

Other spaces in the center include an aerobics/dance/combatives area, a television lounge off the main concourse, a fitness and free weights space, a golf simulator, an auxiliary gymnasium for indoor soccer and in-line hockey, meeting rooms (which can be converted into a cinema), and six racquetball courts, featuring one court with a convertible wall for squash.

The 149,000 SF facility uses natural light, lively colors, and maintenance-free materials to add to the center’s bright and welcoming ambiance.
