Wabash Aquatic Center

The 24-acre January-Wabash Memorial Park, owned and maintained by the City of Ferguson, is a popular attraction because of its 5.5-acre fishing lake, multiple trails, playground, picnic pavilions and bandshell for summer concerts. The City’s existing pool was dated, so officials hired Hastings+Chivetta to design and construct the new Wabash Aquatic Center.

The existing pool and building were demolished and the new Center was constructed on the same site. The new leisure pool has a zero entry pool for easy access, a 250-foot long lazy river and a whirlpool. A separate deck-level splash playground has interactive water features.

The six-lane 25-yard lap pool has a diving board and a plunge area for dual slides: a 100-foot open spiral slide and a 75-foot enclosed speed slide.

The new 8,000 SF pool house has public spaces on the main level and a small pool filtration equipment room below. The Cannonball Cafe is a full-service concessions area with shaded seating. The new bath house includes a conference/party room, locker rooms, a family changing room, a guard office and an administrative office suite. Storage includes special secured areas for chemicals. Site improvements include new vehicle circulation and parking.
