The new A. Eugene Brockman Residential Commons at Centre College has been awarded LEED Silver certification.  The new student housing complex creates a residential-scale neighborhood for upperclassmen, serving as transitional housing to prepare students for independent living after graduation.

Connecting paths from the the townhouse-style residences lead to a central commons that features a large community room with multiple seating groups, a large fireplace and amenities including a full-service kitchen and large laundry.  The commons also features an outdoor colonnaded porch, and an adjacent landscaped quad with a multi-level courtyard and fire pit.

Sustainable design features that contributed to the Silver certification include the use of geothermal energy, energy automation and monitoring, and extensive use of recycled construction materials, including paving a new parking lot with the ground-up surface from a previous lot.

Our team members for the Residential Commons project include ARCO Construction8760 Engineering, and Heapy Engineering.

Hastings+Chivetta has worked with Centre College for the past ten years to help them achieve their sustainability goals on multiple projects including, the LEED Gold Young Hall Science Center and Pearl Residence Hall, and the LEED Silver Campus Center.
