The University of Utah Student Life Center Awarded Athletic Business Aquatic Design Award

Thursday, February 2, 2017

The Hastings+Chivetta-designed George S. Eccles Student Life Center at The University of Utah was recently awarded the Athletic Business Magazine 2017 Aquatic Design Portfolio Award due to its innovative design and features.

Hastings+Chivetta designed the Student Life Center, in collaboration with MHTN Architects, as a transformative project on The University of Utah campus. Inspired by its desert surroundings, the facility truly brings the outdoors in. The color scheme is mostly orange and red hues from the landscape found in Utah, and angular surfaces throughout the facility are a nod to the rock formations in the red rock deserts. The campus setting at the base of the Wasatch Mountains provides stunning views, a resort-like feel and a unique indoor/outdoor swimming experience.

The facility includes a total of four separate bodies of water to provide various aquatic type experiences.  Components include a 50-meter training pool, an activity pool, a large spa pool and an outdoor lounging pool.

The project is currently on track to achieve LEED Silver certification and incorporates several water and energy saving features.
