Murray State Basketball Opens First Practice-Only Facility in Ohio Valley Conference

Monday, September 23, 2013

The newly opened basketball facility at Murray State University is devoted entirely to practice – the first such facility for a team in the Ohio Valley Conference. Designed by Hastings+Chivetta, the facility was dedicated as the Gene W. Ray Center, honoring a $500,000 gift from the alum and his wife, Taffin.

The facility is an 18,000 SF addition to the CFSB Center, the Murray Racers’ basketball performance arena. The CFSB Center frequently hosts a variety of community and campus events, such as commencements, trade shows and concerts, which interrupt the men’s and women’s basketball teams’ access to the court. With the new Ray Center, the teams will never be short of practice space.

The Rays have given generously to academics as well as athletics at Murray State. Their gifts have supported the new Gene W. Ray Science Campus, which consists of the Biology Building, the Jones Family Clocktower, the Jones Hall Chemistry Building and the future Engineering and Physics Building, all designed by Hastings+Chivetta.

Our engineering partners for the Gene W. Ray Center are Bacon | Farmer | Workman/Marcum Engineering.
